Abstract

The main components of sustainable development and governance are examined and
expanded upon in this study, taking into account their interrelationships as they have arisen
from the fundamental topics in sustainable development discourses during the last fifteen years.
We contend that the best way to understand sustainability is as a socially constructed process of
adaptive change, where innovation is an essential component. We go over four essential
components of sustainable governance that are included into the idea of transition management.
The end product is a conceptual framework for decision-making and action with the goal of
advancing sustainability.
